Our Gun Store’s Favorite this Duck Season: The Beretta A400 Xtreme

This Shotgun’s a Favorite in Our Gun Store—And This Duck Season It Might Be Yours, Too!

With any hobby you’re passionate about, especially collecting something, you over time start to develop favorites. And here at Second Amendment Sports, one of our favorite brands we stock in our gun store has to be Beretta.

So when we found out Beretta was launching a new “Gun Up & Gear Up” promotion for its duck guns including the A400 Xtreme, their top-of-the-line synthetic shotgun designed for water fowl hunting, skeet shooting, and everything in between, we couldn’t wait to tell you about it.

In the time we’ve spent with the A400 Xtreme, what we’ve found is a shotgun with the sort of innovative design and attention to detail that surpasses even the expectations we normally have for this top-quality brand.

So, with that in mind, here’s a rundown of the A400 Xtreme’s most impressive features that made it a favorite in our gun store, and might make it a favorite of yours too.

Blink Cycling SystemGun Store for Duck Hunting

Maybe the A400 Xtreme’s most notable feature, and one of the many reasons we continue to stock it in our gun store, is its Blink gas-operated cycling system.

The remarkable thing about it is just how fast this system is—so fast, in fact, that with it you can fire five rounds in under a second. Having trouble imagining what that looks like? Have a look at this video demonstration from Beretta themselves.

The Blink gas-operated system works like this: as the wad travels down the barrel, a portion of the gas behind it exits through an exhaust valve and is used to push the action back and cycle the bolt.

This results in not only one of the fastest cycling speeds on the market, but also reduced kickback compared to an inertia system where the recoil is used to cycle the bolt.

Another advantage is that it can shoot everything from 2 ¾-inch trap loads to 3 ½-inch loads for geese—and because of a built in regulator that knows how much gas to release for each shell size, the cycling speed remains the same for every load.

And while normally the trade-off is that gas-operated systems require more frequent cleaning, the A400 has a self-cleaning piston, so you can shoot hundreds or even thousands of rounds between having to clean it yourself.

All in all, the A400 Xtreme’s Blink cycling system and rotating bolt design deliver about 36% faster cycling of 12ga loads, reduced recoil, and less frequent cleanings.

Kick Off® Recoil Reduction

Speaking of recoil, the next feature that make the A400 Xtreme a must-have for our gun store is the Kick Off Mega® recoil reduction system, an update to Beretta’s older Kick Off® system.

The Kick Off® system was a pair of hydraulic shock absorbers consisting of springs and a gas cylinder piston within a spacer in the stock of the shotgun. These recoil dampeners compress with the recoil and absorbs much of the force. Beretta describes this system by comparing it to the suspension on a car, and compares traditional rubber or polymer inserts to “what it would feel like to drive your car on rubber shock absorbers.”

According to Beretta, Kick Off® reduced recoil by as much as 60% and also reduced muzzle rise.

So what’s new in the A400 Xtreme?

First of all, the Kick Off® spacer is halfway up the stock rather that at the rear, creating less movement where your cheek rests.

And an additional recoil dampener is used to reduce the shotgun’s second recoil peak when the bolt impacts against the back of the receiver, bringing total recoil reduction to 70% and reducing wear and tear on the gun.

The end result is a gun that’s easier on the shoulder and easier to keep steady aim with, too.

AQUA Waterproof Coating

Another feature we love about the A400 Xtreme is the AQUA waterproof coating.

This shotgun, of course, wasn’t made to hang on the wall in a gun store or sit unused in your safe at home. It’s a duck gun, built for waterfowl hunting.

That’s why Beretta coated the A400 in a specially formulated treatment that protects against all corrosion. The inside and outside of the barrel, the action, the stock—every part of this shotgun, internal and external, is protected.

According to Beretta, the A400 Xtreme will resist all corrosion even after 150 hours of exposure to saline fog. But if you want see the anti-corrosive treatment at work yourself, check out the end of this video, where the shotgun is fired immediately after being pulled out of a swimming pool where it was left submerged overnight.

What all this means is that the A400 is an ideal duck gun, because it can handle all of the weather conditions you might see while hunting geese or other waterfowl—in marshes, damp forests, and rainy fields alike.

Gun Up & Gear Up At Your Local Gun Store

Now that you seen a few of the reasons we love the A400 Xtreme, here’s one more reason why you might love it too—a special promotion that Beretta is offering right now!

Beretta’s “Gun Up & Gear Up” promotion provides customers with special deals on three of their duck guns—the A300 Outlander, A350 Xtrema, and A400 Xtreme. When you buy one of these at a participating gun store, you get an online rebate that you can redeem for credit on Beretta merchandise.

The A400 nets you the most value: $150 of free gear from Beretta when you buy an A400 and redeem the rebate.

The promotion only runs through November 30th, 2016, though, so you’ll have to act fast to capitalize on the opportunity to get this fantastic gun with some extra gear in tow.

Luckily, Second Amendment Sports is a licensed Beretta dealer, and offers one of the widest selections of shotguns and accessories of any gun store in McHenry and the Chicago area at large, meaning you can compare the A400 against other models you may be considering, as well as take a look at some of the Beretta gear you might want to use your rebate on.

We also have knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, an in-house gunsmith, and our own indoor shooting range, so we’ve got you covered on any questions, modifications, and shooting you might want to go through with your A400 after you buy. We want you to be as satisfied with the A400 Xtreme as we have been, and we’re here to support you.

So call us at (815) 385-5522, and we’ll help you get the A400 Xtreme into your hands, out of our gun store, and into that duck blind.
